Back on the 19th on January 2014, Burton Leander sent a trailer load of boats and 8 crews to Boston Head Race, although the weather could of been better all had a good day and a couple of good results were achived.
Just last weekend 22nd-23rd Febuary, two of our junior lads from our currently successful quad, went back to Boston for GB Trials. Matt Haywood and James Manton went for two days of trials to try and get into the GB Rowing Squad/Team.
Although the weather has sent us some of the most terrible rain in history over the winter months, and our boys haven't been able to get out on the water, neither in the quad or singles, they both did very well. The trials are seat raced over a set course in doubles and singles, howvever, due to very strong winds, the organisers decided that Sundays racing would be cancelled/Post-poned.
Dispite the second day being cancelled and our boys having the disadvantage of, only having done land training for the last two odd months, whereas other crews that train on lakes for example, would af been able to carry on doing so even with all the rain, they both still did very well, Matt Haywood came a very respectable 14th out of the 42 competitors who entered, with James Manton also proving his worth, coming just a few places lower at 26th of the 42 competitors.
All at Burton Leander are proud of the boys achivements, training will continue on this bench mark that they have set themselves, and hopefully thier finishing positions will be higher next time round, especially now we are able to get back out in boats and back on the water.
